Garage done...for now

No pictures yet but everything's back into the garage neatly.  There are still some things to organize the way we want them to be and we still have to tackle the workbench in the back but it's quite an improvement.  It's a relief.  We still have to work on the top of the garage, the loft above half of it, but it's too hot right now.  It's warm up there even when it isn't warm outside.  Better to wait a little while.  Some things will probably be stored up there eventually so it's still a work in progress.

Both silk garden hats for the girls are done.  Nice.

I wasn't too surprised at the outcome of American Idol.  It looked like everyone on the show was just handing Jordin the prize on Tuesday's show so I would have been shocked if Blake pulled out a win.  Well, you should never be shocked with an Idol result.  Never underestimate the teenybopper vote.  I only watched half of Idol because I had to see the Lost Finale.  It seems like the show will have to move in a different direction next season.  I found the whole flash-forward thing with Jack very intriguing.  There are lots of questions associated with that, the biggest one being who died and why didn't anyone show up for the funeral?  My TV watching, while never plentiful, will be waning now.  With Idol and Lost over for the season, I'll only be watching The Tudors and there are two more episodes until the end of the season.  Other than that, there will only be Netflix movie-watching for me.

Look at this big girl.

She'll be 16 months old in a couple of days.

So cute.

We turned on the a/c for the first time today.  It was supposed to be near 90 today and was pretty warm in here.  It should be cooler next week.

Pirates!  Opening tonight!

Last but not least...

  Happy Memorial Day weekend.

Was that enough random stuff for one entry?  Yeah, probably.

Stay cool....

Still slogging away

Well, it's not totally done but we're about 80% of the way there.  I'm tired and so sore.  It shouldn't be much longer, though.  Lorelai's here tomorrow so we won't get a lot done and Monday I have to work all day.  Tuesday, I'll be working for a couple of hours in the morning and then I can continue.

Here is the first of the two hats in silk garden color 8 for Kelly and Kim.  I didn't realize there was so much green.  They were looking for blues.  I'll see how they like it.  I kind of like it myself.  I do like this yarn.  It's really fun to knit with and I love this pattern.  It's fast!

Billy just returned yesterday from a small town outside of Pittsburgh, PA.  He was there for the past week upgrading some kind of computer system at Dick's Sporting Goods.  He's home for the weekend and then has to go back again, apparently for the next three weeks, but he's hoping they'll send someone else from his office to finish up.  He's done setting everything up, that only took a week, but now he has to train the employees to run their help desk and, apparently, these guys aren't exactly computer whiz kids.  He said after work, he was bored out of his mind because there's nothing to do.  Even the fast food places close at 6:00.  He's seen every new movie out because that was the only thing open to do.  They asked if he'd been to "The Mall".  That's the name of it, "The Mall".  Wacky.

I'm out of steam and out of stories.  Sigh.

American Idol....you've got to be kidding me!!

Pooh is just as confused as I am.  Melinda?  Melinda eliminated before Blake?  Every year there's a shocker and this time, it turned out to be the week before the finals.  I know that it really doesn't matter.  She'll have a successful career nevertheless.  I'm assuming that Jordin will win and Idol can market Jordin very easily.  Melinda said in her exit interview that she guesses her fans are older and not the type to text their votes for two hours.  That's probably true.  It just doesn't make sense that the best singer, the most consistent singer and most professional of the three is eliminated before the finals.  Like I said, it happens every year.

I finished this green hat a couple of days ago.  I finished one of the hats for Kelly and Kim and I'm working on the second.  The yarn turned out to have quite a lot of green in it and I'm not sure how they'll like the colors.  If they'd prefer more blues, I'll look for more yarn and keep these two hats for gifts.  I'm sure someone will wear them.

Tomorrow is the day I hope we'll be finished with the garage cleanup.  It's been taking a long time because I want it done right, once and for all.  If I hadn't been so embarrassed by the shape of the garage, I would have taken a "before" picture for comparison.  I'll be so happy when this is done and I can turn my attention to fixing up the room for me.

It's a rainy day, a good time to concentrate on all the indoor chores I've been neglecting while I've been working out in the garage.  I do need a change of pace.

Ta-ta!

Random stuff

It felt like summer time out there today.  I think it was around 80 degrees, pleasant and dry.  Really beautiful.

We're coming down the home stretch with the garage job.  Everything's organized, except for the things on the workbench, but that can be done later.  We bought utility shelves today, which will be delivered on Friday.  That gives us Saturday to get everything set up and put away.  I can't wait to see how it looks.  So far, it's just great to know where everything is and have it all in labeled boxes.

Some finished items:

I finished the second bib for Lorelai, although I still haven't sewn on the button.

The scarf will be a Christmas gift and was made with Noro Silk Garden yarn.  I LOVE working with this yarn.  The colors are wonderful.  It is silk/mohair/wool.  I only needed two skeins for the scarf so I used the third skein to make this hat for myself.  The pattern is here.  I had actually bookmarked this pattern awhile ago and when I realized I had one skein left, I remembered this one skein hat.

The colors show up beautifully in the picture.  I had Kim try it on and it looked so cute on her that I ordered more yarn (in blues and greens) for her and for Kelly.  This hat was so fast to make.  It probably took a few hours over a couple of days.

The cotton washcloth

is from Mason Dixon Knitting, as is the bib pattern.  This one was really tricky.  You start on the outside and work in the round towards the center.  This is my first attempt and there are many mistakes.  I made a second one for Kelly and I wish I'd taken a picture of that one.  It was perfect because I'd learned from all the mistakes made in this one.  I ran ribbon through the eyelets and make a little basket out of it.  I put a bar of soap inside (moonlight path from Bath and Body Works) and added this and small bottles of bubble bath and shower gel (same scent) to a small basket and wrapped it up.  Cute Mother's Day gift.

I'm working on another hat now, in a different pattern, among other projects.

So, American Idol.  Two more weeks left and to me, it's looking like Jordin and Melinda in the finals.  At least, that's what I think should happen.  Jordin just may take it all and that might not be a bad thing for Melinda.  It doesn't much matter if she wins or not.  She's assured a successful career anyway.  I was in total agreement with Simon tonight when he said that if you were looking for the contestant who delivered the goods every week, it would be Melinda.  That's very true.  We'll see what happens.

Pooh has the right idea.  Goodnight!

Happy Mother's Day

Her Mom's a rock star.

My shirt says "Umpire Mom, I call the shots", Kelly's says "Super Star Mama".  Lorelai is overwhelmed with excitement.

Hope you had a happy.

Happy Cinco de Mayo

No, I don't have any graphics of the Pooh gang dressed in ponchos and big Mexican hats.  This will just have to do.  It looks festive to me.

Found

Well, I'm making some serious progress on the garage-cleaning project.  I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  I'm pooped but feeling good.  I have chucked a lot of things that probably should have been given the heave-ho years ago but what can I say?  I've also found some things I knew I had but couldn't find.  This is one.

Isn't this great?  The neighbor I babysat for knit this poncho for me as a gift when I was a teenager.  We won't discuss how old it is.  When I found it yesterday, I was so excited because ponchos are once again in style.  See?  If you hang onto things long enough, you can wear them again.  I washed it and wore it this morning when I went out.  Bill said, "Oh, I remember that.  You used to wear it all the time."  I love it.

Mindless Knitting

This is absolutely necessary when your brain can't handle anything more intricate than straight garter stitch and you simply must knit to save your sanity.  Knitting also makes my joints feel better when I've been punishing them doing heavy physical labor.  It's true, though I don't know why.  Everyday life (including signing) makes my hands so sore and knitting makes them feel better.  I don't care why.  I'm just grateful.  Anyway, this is one completed bib for Lorelai and one in progress.  I love this cotton yarn (TLC) and I usually don't like knitting with cotton yarn.  These bibs are fun to make.  The pattern is from this book.

So, after all the work, I needed this...

...for about an hour.  Oh, yeah.

And now it's getting late so...

Pooh and Piglet say goodnight.

Nana was rocking tonight

I've been waiting for this American Idol show all season.  The "mentor" for this week's show was Jon Bon Jovi and the place was rocking.  Melinda showed her rocker girl.  Is there anything this girl can't sing?  I think not.  Jordin had some trouble with Living On A Prayer.  It just wasn't her best.  Phil sounded great and LaKisha really came through.  I was a little concerned that this would really trip her up but she was great.  Chris, in my opinion, was the weakest.  This week, two finalists go home.  It's a tough call.  I voted for Melinda, of course.

Look at all those golf balls.  Grandpa wants to start her early.  And she's just the coolest dude in her shades.  You can't read it in this picture but her shirt says, "My Mom is a Rock Star".

Finished this sock this morning.  The brown color looks right but the greens look like blues.  It's tough getting those colors accurate.

Thunder and lightning out there.  I hope it moves through quickly.  I'm ready to go to sleep.  And so...

Pooh says, rock on, dudes.
